Published

on

As storytelling takes a new form due to technology, Naftunes Productions has emerged as a leader in creative studios in Kenya.

Founded in Nairobi by visionary filmmaker and animator Naftal Mogire, the company is now ranked as one of the three best animation studios in Kenya – a status that it has earned through innovation, consistency, and a ruthless pursuit of empowerment of the next generation of creatives.

A Creative Powerhouse

Since its inception, based on the aim of combining art and technology, Naftunes Productions has established itself as a reliable partner in 2D/3D animation, motion graphics, motion pictures, documentaries, and corporate video production. Each project embodies the studio’s philosophy of creativity and purpose, i.e., images that are informative, entertaining, and inspiring.

The effect of this was confirmed in 2024, when Naftunes Productions received a Silver Award at the Digital FIT Awards, making it one of the most innovative digital brands in Kenya.

Shaped by Strong Foundations

The story of Naftal Mogire getting into animation started at Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU), the first university in Kenya to offer the degree of Film Production and Animation. Naftal developed his skills at MMU in the state-of-the-art laboratories with professional TV, audio/visual, and editing equipment.

This solid academic foundation, together with self-motivated learning of the art of animation, gave birth to Naftunes Productions- now a studio that competes with the same institutions that influenced it.

Services That Define Excellence

Naftunes Productions provides a wide range of services designed for businesses, brands, and institutions:

  • 2D and 3D Animation
  • Motion Graphics & Visual Effects
  • Film and Documentary Production
  • Corporate and Commercial Videos
  • Sound Design & Post-Production

These offerings have attracted partnerships with top companies, institutions, and media agencies across Kenya, making Naftunes a go-to creative partner for high-impact visual storytelling.

Training the Next Generation: Naftunes Animation School

Beyond production, Naftunes invests in talent development through Naftunes Animation School. The school’s hands-on, project-based approach bridges the gap between theory and practice, preparing students for real industry demands.

Courses offered include:

  • 2D Animation
  • 3D Animation
  • Motion Graphics

The school provides animation courses across Kenya through a strategic alliance with the Africa Institute of Research and Development Studies (AIRADS), and graduates are provided with globally recognised certificates, which widen the scope of opportunities to international opportunities.

Achievement stories are already being launched—former students and trainees have since become successful entrepreneurs, with one of them starting up Iso Afrika Animation Studios, a testament to the effectiveness of the school training model.

A Recognised Industry Leader

In Kenya, as per the current statistics, there are more than 78 animation studios that have been registered. Naftunes Productions has been one of the best-known and most respected studios and has regularly been listed alongside such leaders as StoryPro, Insignia Productions, and Fat Rain Films within this expanding ecosystem.

The appreciation is an acknowledgement of not only creative production but also the contribution of Naftunes in the development of the Kenyan animation industry at the grassroots level.

Looking to the Future

Naftunes Productions is not declining. Next decade, the company will open the first animation-only institution in Kenya, which will increase the number of people receiving quality education and establish Kenya as the center of the creative economy in Africa.

As CEO Naftal Mogire puts it:

“Animation is not only art–it is opportunity. You can make it out of a frame with a career, livelihood, and legacy.”

As both a content house and a training organization, Naftunes is still changing the digital creative landscape of Kenya, supporting businesses and motivating audiences, and helping the creators of tomorrow become the storytellers of tomorrow.
