Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga is facing heavy backlash from Kenyans after allegations that she stepped on a desperate case for political capital.
A few days, Nairobi chips vendor Bevalyne Kwamboka went viral on social media after revealing the struggles she was going through.
She requested an umbrella to help shield her from rain and sun, as she does her small business.
Her appeal reached Omango, who decided to offer her little support.
The aspiring Nairobi Woman Representative claimed that she cracked most of Kwamboka’s needs.
“Bevalyne Kwamboka is now sorted. Umbrella, cash, and stock to boost her hustle,” she said.
However, the chips seller said she was shocked that the politicians offered cash and stock as she indicated in her social media handles.
“For clarification, team Millicent Omanga only bought potatoes worth Ksh350, came out of the car with five umbrellas, took photos, returned them, and gave me two aprons. I never received any cash,” she said.
In a rejoinder, Omanga said that she was shocked that Kwamboka can be that thankless yet she did her best.
“My support did not meet her expectations which appear to have been higher. In such situations, the truth and facts are sacrificed at the altar of social media fame, blackmail, and character assassination. I wish Kwamboka success and good fortunes as she grows her business,” the nominated lawmaker said.
In yet another response, Kwamboka insisted that Omanga did not give her any money to grow her business.
“Thank you Millicent Omanga for the umbrella, aprons, and potatoes. The clarification here was about the cash that was mentioned in your tweet,” the vendor said.
Kenyans have been left wondering who between the two is speaking the truth.
Some accused the senator of taking advantage of Kwambako for political mileage.
