According to a story by a local daily, eggs that make their way into most streets of Nairobi are not fit for human consumption. The report comes after a meticulous research that was carried out on samples that were taken at random from Tom Mboya street, River Road, Muthurwa among other streets and taken to the Private lab at the Kenyatta national hospital (KNH).

The report found out that all the eggs sampled failed to pass the basic safety test as it was found to contain dangerous bacteria like E. Colli which has been linked to various ailments in human beings.

As if that is not enough, revelations from those working in the sector in Nairobi has revealed disturbing details. It is reported that those selling boiled eggs are not doing so in hygienic conditions right from the preparation stage.

It was revealed that the eggs were not only sourced from outlets that are not reputable but they were prepared using water drawn from the notoriously dirty Nairobi River!

Most of the eggs are then boiled using car tyres which is reported to be a cheaper fuel before the eggs find their way into the busy streets. The problem is said to be the same all over the country and if the report is anything to go by, then the public would be safer boiling their own eggs at home.
