Nandi Senator Cherargei to spend weekend in custody

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei will spend the weekend in police custody following his arrest on Thursday for failing to appear in court.

A warrant of arrest was issued against the Nandi Senator for skipping court on April 19th, 2022 for a hearing of a hate speech case.

The vocal politician and an ally to Deputy President William Ruto through his Twitter handle announced that he was arrested and taken to Nairobi.

Cherargei was presented before a Nairobi Court on Friday.

Akusala, the laywer representing the Nandi Senator told the court that Cherargei got a message on 4th not to come to court.

The lawyer further said that Cheragei fell sick on the 17th of April and went to St. Lukes Orthopedic and Trauma hospital where he was given medication and directed to rest for seven days…

Cheragei will be remanded at the Gigiri police station until Monday awaiting further directions from the trial court.
