National Assembly to Convene Special Sitting to Pay Tribute to Late President Mwai Kibaki

The National Assembly will on Wednesday, 27th April convene a special session to consider an exceptional motion on honour and tributes of the House to the late third President of Kenya, Emilio Mwai Kibaki.

The House which is currently on recess until 10th May is scheduled to hold the sitting following a proclamation on the 22nd of April by President Uhuru Kenyatta regarding the demise of Kibaki.

According to the speaker of parliament Justin Muturi, the session will be held in the parliament building from 2.30 pm.

The lawmakers will discuss special issues related to the death of the retired President.

The body of the late President Kibaki was presented at the parliament building on Monday morning and will remain in parliament until Wednesday, giving the public an opportunity to view it.

State Funeral of the departed president will be held on Friday, 29th April, at Nyayo Stadium before his burial on Saturday, 30th April at his Othaya home in Nyeri County.

The funeral will have full military honors.

Full military honours and protocols include; the conveyance of the body of the former Head of State under escort in a Gun Carriage, accompanied by Military Musical Honours and a 19 gun-salute.
