The Ministry of Health has announced 480 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. This has raised the national tally to 240,172.
In a statement issued on Sunday, 5th September, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the lastest figure was derived from the 5,668 samples tested. This brings to 2,411,720 the cumulative number of samples tested so far. The country’s positivity rate is at 8.5 per cent.
Of the new cases, 448 are Kenyans while 32 are foreigners with 254 being males and 226 females. The youngest is a one-year-old infant while the oldest is 98.
The Covid-19 death tally rose to 4,786 after eight more patients succumbed to the infection.
Kagwe said a total of 809 patients had recovered from the disease, 703 from the home-based and isolation care, while 106 were from various health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries now stands at 228,023.
There are 1,829 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,994 patients are on home-based isolation and care.
Some 155 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 91 of whom are on ventilatory support, 54 on supplemental oxygen and 10 patients are on observation.
Another 762 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 696 of them in the general wards while 66 are in High Dependency Units (HDU).
Vaccination: As of Saturday, 4th September, 2,862,528 vaccines had been administered across the country. Of these, the total first doses were 2,050,377, while the second jabs were 812,151.
The uptake of the second dose was at 39.7 per cent, with the majority being males at 55 per cent, while the proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 2.98 per cent.
