English Premier League side Newcastle United on Monday, 8th November appointed Eddie Howe as its new manager following the sacking of Steve Bruce last month.

Howe has been out of work since he left Bournemouth in August 2020 following relegation from the English Premier League.

The 43-year-old Englishman has signed a three-year deal which keeps him at the club until 2024.

“It is a great honour to become head coach of a club with the stature and history of Newcastle United. It is a very proud day for me and my family,” Howe was quoted as saying by Newcastle’s official website.

Howe admitted that there is a lot of work ahead for Newcastle to remain in the Premier League.

“This is a wonderful opportunity, but there is also a lot of work ahead of us and I am eager to get onto the training ground to start working with the players.

“I would like to thank the club’s owners for this opportunity and thank the club’s supporters for the incredible welcome they have already given me. I am very excited to begin our journey together.”

Newcastle are currently in the 19th position on the Premier League table with five points from 11 matches.

On Saturday, 6th November Howe sat in the stands as Newcastle drew 1-1 with Brighton in the Premier League.

His first game in charge will be on 20th November when Newcastle host newly-promoted Brentford at St James’ Park.

Before Howe’s appointment, the Magpies had approached Villarreal manager Unai Emery about taking over as their new manager, but he declined the offer.
