Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu is now warming to Deputy President William Ruto’s camp, with his recent posts on social media painting a man on his way out of the Jubilee Party.

The lawmaker has toned down his criticism of the DP and now asking for “advise” from Kenyans.

He has been sharing an animated poster with the question, “in whose hands (between Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga) are we safe?”

Interestingly, part of the poster is yellow, a colour associated with the DP’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The first-time MP also mentioned that he was consulting his people before making his next move.

“As you are all aware, I have been listening to the ground and speaking to it. I have also received your calls, messages, and advice. The most important thing I can say, I have learnt… and this is considering my team and I have been listening to our ground every week since 2015. The ground has changed! Compete ground shift,” he said.

Wambugu acknowledged that the two main presidential contenders are Ruto and Raila and he wants to know who between the two is the favourite of the Mt Kenya region.

Many Kenyans remarked that the parliamentarian is employing the same tactics his counterparts have used before dumping Jubilee Party.

The Nyeri Town lawmaker has been one of the most vocal critics of DP and a firm defender of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration. In fact, he is one who coined the phrase “Kieleweke”, which is used to identify the Jubilee Party faction that supports the President.

Before moving to UDA, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru first claimed that she was “consulting the ground”.

Laikipia Woman Rep Cate Waruguru also used a similar strategy before decamping to the wheelbarrow party although she is yet to be received officially by the DP.
