However, in a press briefing, the education minister Adamu Adamu said the reopening had been put off because it was not yet safe for learners to resume learning.
“Our schools will only open when we believe it’s safe for our children and that is when the situation is right, not when the incidence of the infection is going up in the nation,” the minister said.
The social restrictions which had been imposed on Lagos, Abuja and Ogun State were lifted under conditions that citizens observe health protocols.
Chairman of Nigeria’s Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 Boss Mustapha said worshippers and customers attending the reopened joints would be required to wear masks, observe a social distance and observe other containment measures.

This came days after Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha officially cancelled the 2020 academic year for basic institutions and directed all learners to repeat classes in 2021.
Magoha said the decision was arrived at after a series of consultative meetings by key stakeholders who included teachers, parents and medical experts.
