Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko is demanding justice after her bid to contest for the Kajiado gubernatorial seat flopped following the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominations on Thursday.

She was whitewashed by her Kajiado South colleague Katoo Ole Metito, who garnered 72,629 votes against Tobiko’s 26,002 votes.

Tobiko has protested the results, saying that UDA officials in the county colluded with Metito to deny her victory.

The first female lawmaker to be elected in Maasai land described the primaries as shambolic and shameful.

“It is a really sad day for those many Kenyans who are supporters of UDA in Kajiado County. We have seen an exercise unprecedented with irregularities, unprecedented with a whole lot of theft. Ballot papers and boxes were all over as if it is a market place. No system was working.

“The election officials were compromised and elected by one candidate to produce a certain lineup, but were still ready to come and give our party a honourable conclusion this exercise because we love UDA and our party leader William Ruto,” she said.

She added that she feels used and dumped.

“Today we’ve come back to our senses. We now know that the party has its owners.”

If you recall, Tobiko sparked controversy in October last year after hosting the DP at her husband Kishanto Ole Suuji’s Iloprosat Farm in Kajiado. The second in command was welcoming her to UDA from the Jubilee Party.

Kishanto, who is a senior civil servant, protested the meeting, saying that he was not consulted.

He accused the DP of trespass.

This fueled murmurs that Dr Ruto was favouring Tobiko to run on the UDA ticket.

Tobiko is a sister to Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta and a staunch critic of the DP.
