A nine-storey building under construction collapsed in the OJ area of Ruiru, Kiambu County on Sunday morning, 17th, October.
Ruiru DCIO Justus Ombati who confirmed the incident noted that no one was inside when the building collapsed.
The cause of the building’s collapse has not yet been established.
The incident comes barely two weeks after another building under construction collapsed in Nairobi, Parklands Fifth Avenue area. One person was reportedly killed while several others sustained serious injuries
Cases of buildings under construction, collapsing have been on the rise. Last month a two-storey building under construction collapsed in Mamboleo, Kisumu County, killing three people.
In the same month, a five-storey building partially collapsed in Kinoo, Kiambu County. The building was on Monday, 6th September, safely demolished under the supervision of engineers from the NCA and county government officials.
In August another five-storey building collapsed in Gachie, also in Kiambu County, killing three workers.
The construction workers were putting up the sixth floor of the building when the tragedy occurred.
More than 10 people, including construction workers, who had been trapped in the debris, were rescued.
