It’s getting messier.

Supporters of Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua have taken to the streets to declare that they will dump Deputy President William Ruto if he does not pick their master as his running mate.

The demonstrations took place even as Kenyans continue to wait for the DP to name his deputy in the forthcoming General Election.

The second in command was expected to address the press at 10 am, but hours later he is yet to appear before the cameras.

In a video seen by Litkenya.com, Gachagua’s followers, who demonstrated in Mathira argued that the lawmaker is more than qualified for the position.

“No Rigathi, no Ruto,” they chanted.

They accused Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa of fighting Gachagua and insisting that Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki must be Ruto’s number two.

“We are sons of Mau Mau and we must be respected. Gachagua must be named running mate. Any other choice is invalid,” an angry supporter said.

Dr Ruto and his key allies are currently holed up in a meeting to unlock the stalemate.
