Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura appointed into Speaker’s Panel

– Senator Issac Mwaura will preside over Senate proceedings in the absence of deputy speaker Margaret Kamar

– The Speaker’s Panel position fell vacant after senator Margaret Kamar (Uasin Gishu) was appointed senate deputy speaker

– Mwaura had expressed interest in the Senate deputy speaker position but bowed out after Jubilee Party endorsed Kamar

– The lawmaker became the youngest MP currently holding the position both in the senate and the National Assembly

Nominated senator Isaac Mwaura has been appointed into the Speaker’s Panel.

Mwaura’s name was fronted for the position by Senate majority leader Samuel Poghisio and was approved by Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka.

The 38-year-old MP filled the vacancy left by Uasin Gishu senator Margaret Kamar who was appointed deputy speaker following ouster of Kithure Kindiki (Tharaka Nithi).

His appointment means he will be presiding over Senate proceedings in the absence of Speaker Lusaka and his deputy Kamar.

“The Senate approves the nomination of Senator Isaac Mwaura as a member of the Speaker’s Panel to take up the vacancy occasioned by election of Senator Margaret Kamar to the office of the deputy speaker and further elects Mwaura to preside over the Senate in the absence of the deputy speaker pursuant to article 107 (1) c of the constitution and standing order 15 of the Senate,” Speaker Lusaka said in notice.

Mwaura became the youngest MP to be appointed in the Speaker’s Panel both in the Senate and National Assembly.

He is also the highest-ranking person with a disability and the first to hold such a position in parliamentary house leadership.

“It has been my dream to be in such a position since I first visited Parliament in in 2009 to present a petition on behalf of people with albinism.

I am a trailblazer and always motivated to serve God through humanity and I believe that no one should ever edit themselves out but keep on trying since it’s only in trying that one is able to make it,” said Mwaura.

Before Kamar, the position was occupied by former Imenti Central MP Gitobu Imanyara.

In a separate story, TUKO.co.ke reported that Mwaura had expressed interest in the Senate deputy speaker position but bowed out of the race alongside three others after Jubilee Party endorsed Kamar.
