NPS Condemns Viral Video of GSU Graduates

The National Police Service (NPS) has come out to strongly condemn the actions of a section of newly graduated General Service Unit (GSU) officers seen in a viral video making reckless remarks.

In the clip, the youthful graduates who were excited ahead of their graduation could be heard threatening members of the public.

“Na si ati nini…hawa ni wale waziii…sisi ni wale wa pa! pa! pa!…,” said one of the graduates.

NPS, in a statement released on Wednesday evening, 8th December regretted the incident saying that it was not a representation of the police service.

“The attention of the NPS is drawn to a video clip circulating on social media depicting newly graduated GSU officers recording themselves as they make some irresponsible and reckless remarks. We wish to clarify and assure the public that the behaviour portrayed in the clip is not acceptable and does not reflect the values of the GSU, KPS and the NPS,” said NPS on its official Twitter handle.

“All graduands went through a rigorous value-based training modelled on democratic policing principles and designed to make them responsive and responsible officers of the law at the service of citizens. The oath of allegiance they took as part of their graduation is a testament to the sanctity of their duty to service.”

NPS further noted that disciplinary action will be taken against the group following their irresponsible acts.

“The remarks as made in the clip are therefore regrettable and stand condemned. An internal review is ongoing with a view of preferring appropriate measures regarding the incident. GSU is renowned for its focused training aimed at producing highly disciplined and responsible officers “ it added.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday presided over the 48th passing-out-parade of the GSU at the National Police College Embakasi B Campus in Nairobi County where 2,502 new officers were incorporated into the service.

The Head of State tasked new General Service Unit (GSU) officers joining the National Police Service to serve the country with courage, integrity and discipline.
