The Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) has announced the close of its flagship University Stock Market Challenge.
The NSE partnered with Nairobi based broker AIB-AXYS Africa as a way to increase financial literacy amongst youth and their knowledge of capital markets.
In the 3-month challenge, students received free training from experts, continuous guidance and the chance to practice their newly gained skills in a virtual market through the bourse’s virtual academy.
The NSE said the winners of this challenge were Agnes Mbuvi with 359% growth in investment, Looqmann Mohammed with 321% and Kennedy Mwangi with 296% growth, respectively.
“We acknowledge the need for education on capital markets through platforms like these and encourage more students to be a part of this,” said Geoffrey Odundo- NSE CEO.
Seven students from Strathmore University Business School (SBS) and Strathmore Institute of Mathematical Sciences (SIMS) took the top 10 positions.
“Our intention at the NSE is to make sure all students have access to the markets and we are willing to support you,” said NSE COO David Wainaina.
