The use of internet sensations by Kenyan companies and organisations to market their products and services is now becoming a trend. Many young people are striving to create content to try their luck, becoming becoming celebrities overnight.
Nairobi’s Mukuru Kwa Njenga slum dwellers Asiiba Matendechere and Charles Musyoka are the newest stars after their ‘Ntakufinya’ exchange made 10 years ago on national TV over electricity theft in the informal settlements went viral. They now have a reason to smile after securing jobs.
Kiss 100 FM presenter Jalang’o, real name Felix Odiwuor, disclosed that he had helped them secure lucrative deals with Jahazi, a maize flour miller. Speaking on Monday, 5th July, on his Bonga na Jalas YouTube show, he said he had fulfilled his promise, as he had hinted that he had a surprise for the two men.
Jalang’o, who is known for nurturing talents and supporting hustles through his YouTube channel and social media platforms, assured Asiiba ‘Ntakufinya man’ and Charles ‘Finya man’ that he would present each of them with a brand new motorcycle donated by the flour company.
The two Mukuru Kwa Njenga slum dwellers met for the first time since their chance confrontation happened 10 years ago. Asiiba, accompanied by one of his two wives, said he has nine children and has lived in Mukuru since 1992. He urged the people using their content and photos to share their income with them.
“Don’t use my photo for free. Even if it’s a comedy skit include us so we can share the money,” he pleaded.
Jalang’o urged people to always assist others whenever they can.
“Whatever you do, keep on pushing, keep on helping, keep on supporting people,” he said.
