The Orange Democratic Movement party has started the process of picking candidates to who will participate in the General Elections in Kwale and Taita Taveta Counties.
The nomination exercise in the two Counties kicked off Monday and is expected to close at 5:00 pm.
“And for the first time in the history of political parties in Kenya, we have introduced digital voting where party members had their biometrics displayed before being allowed to vote,” said ODM Director of Communications Phillip Etale.
Once a member casts their vote electronically, the vote will be transmitted direct to the tallying Centre in readiness for the final tallying.
According to Etale, the gadgets are set in a way that one cannot vote twice.
Only registered Party members are eligible to take part in the exercise.
Last month, ODM announced dates for nominations of various seats ahead of the 2022 General Elections.
The party which has already settled on Raila Odinga as the presidential flag bearer will hold its party primaries from 1st -21st April according to National Elections Board Chairperson Catherine Mumma.
Mumma said that the nomination exercise shall proceed as scheduled in 21 Counties except for three counties; Kajiado, Narok and Migori whose new dates shall be announced later.
“The nomination exercise shall go on in the Counties listed in the notice below save for Kajiado, Narok and Migori whose new dates shall be announced in due course,” said Catherine Mumma.
“Dates for the nomination exercise in Kajiado, Narok and Migori counties will be announced afresh. This is because we had scheduled the exercise on a Saturday which is Sabbath day for some of our members from those Counties,” she added.
