They also said they have finalized the OKA Coalition Agreement, which details the nature and extent of their political engagement and cooperation as partners.
They noted that come Monday, February 28,2022 they will officially deposit the agreement with the Registrar of Political Parties as OKA Coalition.
“Our resolve emanates from the resilience we have witnessed among Kenyans in our recent political tours. Indeed, they deeply desire leadership with a solemn responsibility to build a responsive and sustain able economy: promote the rule of law: and restore the decency of living within our borders.”
They said they are open to honest engagements with other political formations that share in their ideology.
“As an alliance governed by values and principles of equality, equity, sustainable development citizen and zero tolerance to corruption, we are open to honest engagements with other political formations that share in our ideology. This shall involve structures and open negotiations which must include resolution of the country’s crippling debt portifolio and discussion on exploration of our natural resources to address the debt and create employment for our largely unemployed youths amongst other important issues.”
“ As of today, several other political parties have expressed interest in joining the coalition. This is because we believe that the diversity of our nation calls for heterogeneity of minds and ideas to effect impactful change.
They also called on Kenyans to exercise their civic duty and register as voters in the ongoing Enhanced Voter Registration exercise.
Meanwhile, the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu says no request to register a coalition party with her office had been received since the new law was signed into law.
Speaking during a breakfast consultative session on access to information framework on elections and media practice organised by the Media Council of Kenya, Nderitu, however, said some names had been reserved, but no formal registration process had started.
According to the new legislation, coalition agreements must be registered at Office of Registrar of Political Parties by April 9, four months before the general election.
The Registrar also asked sitting MCAs, MPs and governors to ensure they join parties they wish to contest on their tickets by March 26.
Last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta signed into law the Political Parties (Amendment) Bill, 2021 that gives room for the formation of a coalition political party.
