Human Rights Activist Okiya Omtatah has urged politicians to embrace digital elections with a view to ensuring transparency in the outcome.

According to Omtatah, the move will reduce election disputes encountered after every five years of elections across the country.

“We need tamperproof elections that were invented in Brazil and perfected in India and other places,” he said.

He further argued that the seven days given for filing presidential election petitions and 14 days to hear the case would be unrealistic if the digital election method is not used.

“We need to move away from free and fair elections to tamperproof elections,” he said, adding that IEBC needs to benchmark in Brazil or India instead of the European countries.

The Activist, who contested for Busia senatorial post through Ford Kenya ticket in 2017 further declared that he will give it another trial in 2022 but did not disclose the political party he will use.

“If we agree on the presidential candidate to support as a party that is favorable to me, I will stick to my party but if the outcome is contrary to my choice then I will quit the party and seek elections for another party,” he said.

Omtatah competed with the current Senator Amos Wako whose term is coming to an end in August 2022.
