One Succumbs to Covid-19 as 170 More Test Positive

The Ministry of Health on Friday, 8th October, confirmed 170 new Covid-19 cases from tests carried out in the last 24 hours. This brings the country’s Covid-19 caseload to 250,898.

In a press statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that the cases were detected from 6,162 samples tested within the same period, raising the total to 2,598,772. The country’s positivity rate is at 2.8 per cent.

Of the new cases, 158 are Kenyans while 12 are foreigners with 87 being females while 83 are males. The youngest is a nine-year-old child while the oldest is 90 years.

Kagwe said 254 patients have recovered from the disease with 216 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 38 are from various health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries now stands at 243,591.

Sadly, one patient succumbed to the deadly virus, bringing the death toll to 5,179.

Vaccination: A total of 4,111,317 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 3,093,399 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 1,017,918.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 31.5 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 3.7 per cent.

The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033. So far a total of 1,017,918 persons have been fully vaccinated out of the targeted 27,246,033 for this phase.
