Kenya on Tuesday, 21st December recorded 2,844 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 10,215 tested in the last 24 hours.
The total number of confirmed cases in the country now stands at 267,571 from a cumulative test of 2,943,979 conducted since March last year. The positivity rate is now at 27.8 per cent.
In a statement to the newsrooms, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said that from the new cases 2,561 are Kenyans while 283 are foreigners.
In terms of gender distribution, 1,331 are males while 1,513 are females. The youngest case is a one-month-old child, while the oldest is aged 98.
Kagwe confirmed that 159 patients have recovered, 82 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 77 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 249,474.
Unfortunately, one patient has succumbed to the disease pushing the cumulative fatalities to 5,354.
There are 404 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,339 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.
Some 19 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 11 of them on ventilatory support while eight are on supplemental oxygen.
Another 83 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 79 of them are in the general wards. Four patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
Vaccination: As of 20th December 2021, a total of 9,057,426 vaccines had been administered across the country. Of these, 5,397,849 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 3,659,577.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 56.2 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 13.4 per cent. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
