Africa Day (formerly African Freedom Day and African Liberation Day) is the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity on 25th May 1963. It is celebrated in various countries on the African continent, as well as around the world. The organization was transformed into the African Union on 9th July 2002 in Durban, South Africa, but the holiday continues to be celebrated worldwide annually on 25th May.
For Africa Day 2021, One Vibe Africa will be hosting a 24-hour Digital Marathon featuring a screening of the short film titled Madaraka; a story about a mother and a son from the slums of Kisumu, Kenya, and their work to educate and liberate their communities through creative collaboration, self-empowerment, entrepreneurship, and sustainability.
Despite the current pandemic, Clubhouse has enabled the global African village to connect, mobilize friends and allies in just under 3 weeks, and are making it happen with unity and the spirit of Ubuntu and Harambee! Throughout the day’s festivities, One Vibe Africa will be taking over Clubhouse’s platform and hosting a day’s worth of conversations, poetry, musical performances, and keynote speeches. Kenya’s marathon runner is expected to give a keynote speech.
Every hour for the 24 hours of Africa Day, diverse virtual audio social rooms that will accommodate groups of up to 5,000 people will be facilitated on Clubhouse. Check out the itinerary.
