There was a little scare at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega after ODM leader Raila Odinga abruptly left the main dais. Raila is the chief guest at the Bukhungu II meeting convened by Cotu Secretary-General Francis Atwoli.

Hundreds of Kenyans and leaders who attended the convention watched in shock as the former Prime Minister walked out of the podium yet he had not addressed the gathering. He left with a few aides.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya assured the crowd that was all.

Baba will be back, there is no need to be panic,” Oparanya said.

After about five minutes later, Raila walked back to the podium.

It was not clear why the opposition leader was forced to leave the podium momentarily.

Some argued that the AU Special Envoy was just responding to a call of nature.

Critics claimed that he looked weak and perhaps was escorted out of the podium for classified reasons.

When he returned, Oparanya invited him to make his speech.

Raila, who was endorsed by a section of Luhya elders for President, urged the Mulembe Nation to rally behind his State House bid.

“I want to improve your livelihoods. My economic policies will create jobs everywhere in this country. All children will be able to get a quality education while no Kenyan will suffer just because they don’t have money after falling ill.

He also chided Deputy President Willliam Ruto, stating that the second in command is lying to Kenyans about his agenda if elected President next year.

“He has been in government since 2013, but now wants Kenyans to believe that he will bring development in 2022. Why has he not implemented his agenda for almost 10 years?” Raila posed.
