A section of Pokot leaders are walking a tight rope as residents accuse them for abandoning the electorate at this time of Covid-19. The leaders, West Pokot senator Samuel Poghisio, Simon Kachapin who is the Energy ministry chief administrative secretary, deputy governor Nicholas Atudonyang, PS Micah Powon and Tiaty MP William Kamket. The five are said to have gone missing since the first case of Covid-19 epidemic was reported in Kenya. Sources told the Weekly Citizen that the five have never been seen in the county since the year started. Most of them are said to have switched off their phones.

West Pokot Senator Samwel Pogisio

Residents who spoke to us in particular accused Senator Poghisio for not caring for the electorate who elevated him to where he is today. “Poghisio does not even know those who helped him to climb the ladder when he was ODM-K chairman under party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, now the Wiper party supremo. If it was not for Kalonzo, he would be politically colourless with glue,” they said. They observed that since the outbreak of the deadly bug, the senator has not been out to sensitise and educate the residents concerning the Covid-19 and its devastating consequences to the locals. “He is an academic who is a lone ranger. He should go back to Daystar University to teach journalism where he will meet the likes of Beatrice Mbogo, among his own students who will not teach him on leadership,” one resident quipped.

Former Governor Simon Kachapin

This come after thousands of residents in the county are faced with hunger due to food shortages in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic that has claimed many people globally, threatening the existence of humanity on earh. Self proclaimed acting senator, Dennis Kapchok (Mulmulwas), who has lately given Senator Poghisio a run for his money after declaring his interest for senate 2022, expressed the need for leaders to unite and work as a team to defeat the invisible enemy of Covid-19. Kapchok said the senator needs to be a good ambassador of the county instead of engaging in cry baby tactics and pillow-talk. Kapchok was referring to a recent incident where the senator criticised the governor in local radio stations for visiting Tapach ward while taking aid to a recent landslide incident victims before the onset of heavy April down pour that pounded the area.

West Pokot DG Dr Nicholas Atudonyang

Kapchok also faulted the deputy governor, Atudonyang for being a permanent absentee in the county to chart the county’s development programmes as he is marooned in USA despite many calamities including the landslide, floods and now Covid 19 that afflict its people. Daniel Lomachar, on the other side, has accused Kamket for displaying Kanu politics with Gideon Moi, hence leaving Tiaty people to relish under hunger, who are now affected by untold suffering as a result of continuous cattle rustling in Baringo county continue unabated.
