The National Police Service has announced it will enforce traffic rules to curb the increasing number of accidents in the country.
In a statement, NPS on its official Twitter handle expressed concern over the surge mostly involving motorbikes in the past few days.
”The National Police Service is greatly concerned over the rising number of accidents in the country. This is according to our daily regional accidents summary over the past few days. More worrying is the fact that most of these accidents that have led to serious injuries and fatalities involve motorbikes” the statement read.
Consequently, the officers will embark on an operation in an effort to reduce road carnage this festive season.
“Note that our officers will ever be present to offer any assistance as they ensure compliance with the rule of law. We thus appeal for maximum cooperation from the members of the public in reducing the number of road carnage
While appealing for cooperation, the police called on Kenyans to exercise caution on the roads as heavy rains continue pounding several parts of the country.
“It is in this regard that we urge all motorists, passengers and pedestrians to exercise diligence and caution on our roads as we approach the festive season and closure of schools. The rainy weather seems to compound the situation too”.
At least 3,900 people have died on Kenyan roads due to accidents from January up to November 16, 2021, compared to 3,200 deaths in the same period last year, representing a 16 per cent increase.
