Statehouse spokesperson Kanze Dena says statements to the effect that the government failed to implement President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big Four Agenda are untrue.
Dena instead says President Kenyatta’s key focus in his second term has been the Big Four Agenda and that the head of state has delivered on this promise. She notes that tremendous progress has been made to realize the blueprint’s four pillars; food security; manufacturing; affordable housing; and Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
According to Kanze Dena, the implementation of the Big Four Agenda programs “was to a large scale only disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.”
She says the outbreak of the pandemic and the consequent health crisis forced the government to readjust its programs in order to “fit the changing dynamics including rolling out incentives & subsidies to support the economy.”
Kanze, who was speaking during an interview at a local radio station, noted that the Big Four Projects were conceived in such a way that their implementation is continuous and not regime specific.
“Gov’t programs, including the Big Four Agenda, are progressive and not regime specific. That’s why President Kenyatta took over and completed initiatives started by his predecessors and expects that ongoing projects are completed by the next regime.” She said
She said delays in delivery of Government programs are sometimes a result of unforeseen setbacks but was, however, quick to point out that most of President Kenyatta’s legacy projects are on schedule.
At the same time, the Statehouse Spokesperson said President Kenyatta is constantly engaged in finding solutions to problems affecting all Kenyans. She noted that the head of state may not speak out regularly on all challenges affecting Kenyans but assured that he is always working behind the scenes to address them.
“That’s why you’ve seen, for instance, the President sit down with community leaders from affected regions to find lasting solutions to the security challenges.” She said
In the war on graft, Dena disclosed that President Kenyatta gets frustrated by the legal bottlenecks in the fight against corruption & has openly expressed his dissatisfaction about it.
She says the President has done everything within his powers to fight graft including taking administrative action against those implicated in the vice.
