President Uhuru Kenyatta has come out to comment on Uhuru Park’s land-grabbing allegations made by the public.

Speaking to a presser on Thursday, December 23, the President dismissed the claims that Uhuru Park is slowly taken over by private developers, stating that the construction, which is currently ongoing at the premises of the park, is aimed at facelifting its view as the land had remained unutilized for years.

“The difference that is being occasioned by the road building, by the drainage and sewage being put in, I do believe that within another two years, Nairobi will be a truly 21st-century city, catering for its population in a positive manner and a manner befitting our people,” Uhuru stated.

Those who were reporting that Uhuru Park has been grabbed, please take pictures and show members of the public the work that we are doing here please,” he added.

He further assured Kenyans that the renovation is aimed at giving the park and Nairobi a perfect scope considering that it is ranked among the biggest cities in Africa in terms of population and development.

“All this is because we want to better the lives of Kenyans so that they can be proud of their city, Nairobi, and also their country. That is our only wish and nothing else,” he continued.

This comes days after Netizens on social media raised concerns about the demolition on the sides of the park, perceiving that it was among the programs of Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), which was conducting demolitions on structures sitting on illegal lands.

Furthermore, a section of social media users was curious on why the Government would decide to demolish the park, which was opened to the public in May 1969 by Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, just days after the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), where Uhuru upheld the protection of the environment.
