A section of Women leaders have urged Presidential aspirants DP William Ruto and Raila Odinga to choose women running mates for the 2022 general elections.

Speaking in Kiambu led by KANU Women Congress leader Gladys Chania and her PNU Counterpart June Waweru the women said the presidential candidates must be at the forefront in the pursuit of gender equality in the country.

They noted that institutions like the Judiciary, Executive have done well in integrating women leaders and urged politicians to imitate them.

They particularly called on the need for the running mates to be from Mt Kenya saying the region voting block deserves that.

At the same time, they called for the protection of women aspirants during campaigns saying cases of violence against women are on the rise.

June called on the Mt. Kenya Region to come out and register as voters during the remaining few days saying as PNU leaders they have launched a strategic campaign to deal with voters apathy in the region.

Other women leaders Hellen Kiragu and Kevina Loyatum emphasised on the need to prioritize women from minority communities.

They urged women in Kenya to take advantage of their numbers support women seeking elective positions in August 2022.
