Carrefour chain of supermarkets will be stocking the PlayStation 5 gaming consoles. They’ve announced this through Twitter, where they’ve shared a retail price of KES. 89,995. They haven’t stated which stores in particular will be stocking the consoles, so it could either be all Carrefour stores, or it’s a guessing game.
The company also hasn’t stated which model they’re selling at that shared price. There are two PS5 models; Standard, and Digital only. Hopefully, the price shared is for the Standard Model. This article will be updated once we have that information.
The good news now for many gamers is that you now can walk to a supermarket near you and get a PS5. This has been a hard thing for people interested, especially since the consoles have been hard to find either way, across the world.
The not so good news is the price point is still quite steep. Yes we know that there are taxes, fees, and profits to be added when importing such items. And these extra charges do bump up prices. However, we’d calculated these numbers back in November of 2020, and found out that these consoles should range between KES. 73,000 and KES. 78,000.
Hopefully, once the supply chain stabilises we will see prices drop to between KES. 55,000 for the Digital Only model to KES. 65,000 for the Standard model.
