Concerned residents of Baringo County have demanded action after spotting a white helicopter that they suspect has been on an evil mission in the bandit-prone zone.

Pouring out their hearts during a meeting aimed at tackling the never-ending banditry acts, the locals told area leaders and stakeholders in the security sector that the chopper has been landing on Korkon Hills.

Police reservists also disclosed that they have sighted the helicopter.

They appealed to Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Mohamed Maalim to order investigations so that its owners can be identified.

“For one to fly a helicopter or any other aircraft, one must get a license from Kenya Civil Aviation Authority. We need to be told who owns the helicopter and what business it engages in,” Eric Kibet, a resident of Mochongoi said.

Unsettlingly, the plane has been landing in a zone where bandits are known to graze their livestock.

The residents lamented that every time the helicopter visits, livestock theft goes up.

They harbour suspicion that the aircraft has been supplying rustlers with guns and ammunition to enable them to steal livestock.

“At first we thought it belonged to the police and was carrying out aerial surveys. To our surprise, security officers deployed here denied that it was theirs,” Kibet said.

One of the biggest challenges that have faced police officers in the dangerous terrain is the lack of weapons to match those used by the bandits.

It is reported that at times law enforcers fear repulsing attackers because they have sophisticated weapons.

Some local leaders, including Tiaty MP William Kamket, have been fingered for allegedly having a role in rustling.

However, Kamket and other suspects have always denied the claims.
