Leaders of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance had a rough time selling their agenda in Khwisero Constituency in Kakamega County after some residents rejected their message.

As Deputy President William Ruto was making his speech, a group of youths shouted that they were supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The DP claimed that the former Prime Minister’s priorities are misplaced and should not be elected to form the next government.

“The man of the riddles wants to change the constitution if he assumes the presidency. It is like he doesn’t know that Kenyans are seeking jobs. As Kenya Kwanza, we have solid economic policies that will be given prominence should we win,” he said.

The second in the command then asked the locals if they agreed with his sentiments.

Surprisingly, the pro-Raila chants filled the air.

“Azimio! Azimio! Azimio!” some residents responded.

Dr. Ruto went on with his address by ignoring the chants.

Ruto closed ranks with ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford-Kenya’s Moses Wetangula on Sunday, January 23.

He is riding on the coattails of the duo to increase his fortunes in Western Kenya counties – Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, and Vihiga. Muduvadi and Wetangula hail from Vihiga and Bungoma, respectively.

Since the 2007 General Election, the region has been overwhelmingly voting for Raila. ODM is also the dominant party in Mulembe Nation.

However, after Mudavadi announced his partnership with Ruto, an Azimio-induced haemorrhage is draining his ANC party.

More than half of the 14 lawmakers and one senator have Azimio la Umoja affiliate parties, with the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) of Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa reaping big.

However, Mudavadi opines that those who defect will be rejected by voters.
