Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance Presidential Aspirant Raila Odinga has promised to ‘protect’ interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i against political aggressors, who have been attacking him in the recent past.
Speaking in Nyamira on Friday, July 1, 2022, Raila praised Matiang’i saying that he has served the government well and does not deserve the aggression coming from Deputy President William Ruto’s camp.
Raila also told the residents to vote for candidates in his political affiliation, to avoid embarrassing him in the August 9 polls.
“Hapa Nyanza ni nyumbani. Mimi nataka ‘100 percent’ kutoka hapa. Sitaki madodoa hapa. Nimeona wale wengine kila mara wakiingia Nyamira. (Nyanza is home. I want 100 percent from here. I do not want spots here. I have seen others coming here),” Raila said.
“Niko hapa na rafiki yangu, Fred Matiang’i. Tumetoka mbali na amefanya kazi nzuri. Analetewa mashida na wale wakora lakini nitamlinda. (I have my Freind here, Fred Matiang’i. We have walked quite a journey and he has done a good job. He is being troubled by those troublemakers but I’ll protect him),” added Raila.
Ruto vs Matiang’i
In the recent past, Ruto and his lieutenants have been verbally attacking the CS, accusing him of being partisan and siding with Raila in the 2022 General Elections.
In January, Matiang’i accused Ruto of trying to intimidate him by making his name the campaign agenda.
“You have made it your duty to attack Matiang’i and Kibicho every time you get hold of the microphone. Is Matiang’i and Kibicho your manifesto? Can’t you talk about what you want to do for Kenyans? Can’t you talk of your manifesto? When did Matiang’i and Kibicho become your manifesto?” posed the CS.
