Raila Surprises Young Man From Poor Family on His Birthday

A young man got the ultimate birthday surprise when ODM leader Raila Odinga showed up at his party.

Gideon Gitonga Gachuki had not imagined even in his wildest dreams that the former Prime would grace his birthday party, which was held at the 22-year-old’s parents’ home at Kamuthi village, Githunguri in Kiambu county.

However, Raila would make a quiet visit to join the university student and his friends at the event. He arrived in a small convey.

“Party leader Raila Odinga yesterday afternoon surprised 22-year-old Gideon Gitonga Gichuki. His family was extremely grateful for the attendance of Raila Odinga,” ODM said in a statement.

He was received by Gichuki’s immediate family members and a few villagers, who welcomed him with Kikuyu songs and dances.

Netizens were curious to know how the opposition leader knew Gichuki was marking his birthday.

According to the birthday boy, he recently sourced Raila’s phone number and texted him about his planned party. He did not think that the ex-Premier would turn up.

Help My Son

Gichuki’s mother was overwhelmed by emotions upon seeing Raila.

“Support my son. He has a great vision and how I wish you can hold his hand. I never imagined that you can come to this village,” the emotional mum pleaded before her son echoed the same words.

She also asked the Raila to buy her a dairy cow so that she can be selling milk to support her family.

The ex-Prime Minister was kind enough and said he would make sure the family gets a pregnant cow within the shortest time possible.

“When I received Gichuki’s message, I did not ignore it. I texted back and asked him who he is. I purposed to attend his birthday party, but I did not tell many people, except your governor (James Nyoro), whom I see has come with his friends,” the opposition chief said, throwing residents into fits of laughter.

However, some people did not believe it was a surprise and argued that the visit was well-scripted.
