Raila working on new Luhya lineup for 2022

Raila Odinga has fallen out with Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang’ula in Luhya and national politics. For now, Raila is working on his new lineup in Luhyaland. His focus being on Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli, and Kakamaga governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

Raila is bitter that Mudavadi, Wetang’ula and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka are not reliable. Atwoli and Oparanya have cropped up after they successfully organised BBI Bukhungu rally that forced Mudavadi and Wetang’ula to attend fearing the negative impact.

BBI rally at Bukhungu was to be countered by one in Mumias fronted by Mudavadi, Wetang’ula and deputy president Wiliam Ruto allies in the region. Governors Oparanya, Wycliffe Wangamati (Bungoma), Wilber Ottichilo (Vihiga), Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia), Atwoli, Senator Cleophas Malala, Devolution cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa are key faces in Raila camp together with nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi.

Vihiga senator George Khaniri has deserted the Raila camp and is now leaning towards Mudavadi. To handle Raila Busia equation is former Funyula MP Paul Otuoma. Otuoma has hosted Raila and Kanu leader Gideon Moi at his K aren home. Raila to checkmate Wetangula in Bukusu politics is backing a new party Democratic Action Party that is associated with CS Wamalwa and former minister Mukhisa Kituyi.

Wycliffe Oparanya

In Trans Nzoia, they tasked Wamalwa to groom a candidate who will battle it out with outspoken Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa of Ford Kenya, a front runner for the governorship seat in the county. A recent opinion poll shows, if governorship polls are held in Trans Nzoia, the Kiminini MP would emerge victor. The MP has been visible in major functions in Trans Nzoia and he has been vocal on national issues, especially those affecting his people. Wamalwa the CS and Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati are to control Trans Nzoia and Bungoma counties politics. Oparanya is the national BBI coordinator while Wangamati is the BBI regional coordinator in Western.

In Kakamega, ODM has only two MPs in Shinyalu and Mumias West constituencies hence his current moves in the county to consolidate his power base ahead of 2022. In Vihiga, Governor Ottichilo is the point man after Khaniri deserted to join ANC leader.

Luanda MP Chris Omulele is the only ODM MP in the county and does not get on well with Otichillo. For Busia, Otuoma was appointed to solidify ODM party in the area in fear of Ford Kenya that has made many inroads in the county. Key financier of Raila and BBI activities is Atwoli.
