The construction of the Maritime Safety and Rescue Regional Command Center to serve Lake Victoria will commence in October this year in Mwanza, Tanzania as the East Africa Community strives to avert calamities in the lake. The construction of the lifesaving center ground to a halt after disagreements among member states on where the center was to be stationed. The multimillion facility will be complemented by smaller stations in towns surrounding the lake. Achola Simon reports.
