Two former rugby players who were jailed for 15 years for gang rape have been released on cash bail after they successfully appealed and applied to be charged afresh.
Alex Olaba and Frank Wanyama formerly of Kenyan Harlequins were found guilty of the charges filed by a Kenyan musician and were handed 15 years sentencing in 2019.
However, the court quashed the sentencing following the appeal on grounds that one of the key witnesses in the matter did not swear before taking the stand.
The two who appeared before a Nairobi court, they argued that their constitutional rights would be violated if they continue to be held in the light of new development.
They were released on a cash bail of KSh 300,000.
