Lamu county woman representative captain Ruweida Obo Mohamed has said her development track record will be an integral factor of her success in the upcoming General Elections.
Ruweida who is seeking to defy all odds in becoming the first ever legislator representing a constituency from the county has already outlined her agenda, further remaining optimistic of clinching Lamu East parliamentary seat on August 9.
“My scorecard is in public domain and my legislation role in the national assembly is there on Mzalendo for all to see.In the last five years,I have spoken in parliament more times than the incumbent. I chair one of the leading parliamentary committees in Regional Integration. This is besides initiating various development projects on the ground and oversighting county and national admnistrations to carry out their mandate as stipulated in the constitution” noted Ruweida
Ruweida who is the first Bajuni woman to study and qualify as a pilot having fled several high profile personalities including governors Hassan Ali Joho of Mombasa and Anyang Nyong’o of Kisumu will prioritise education and security if elected during the forthcoming exercise.
Lamu East constituency majorly occupied by Muslims, mostly Swahili of Bajuni origin, is known for male chauvinism, a key reason behind having only male lawmakers over the years, but the tough talking Woman MP is eyeing to break the jinx.
” I will not allow culture and gender cards to cloud my political ambitions as I’m already set targeting the big goal ahead and the electorate has already embraced my bid as it resonates well with their expectations. Our people have lagged behind due to poor representation and that is why we’re in this race to win and offer servant-oriented leadership.I urge my people to elect me to help end the marginalization that Lamu has been placed in for a long time” affirmed Obo who made her political debut in 2013 on a TNA ticket.
Ruweida will be battling it out with the current Member of Parliament, Athman Sharif. She said she will use her political connections and friendship with high end national leaders to bring resources and goodies to the constituency.
“Everyone knows I’m president Uhuru Kenyatta’s zealous supporter and great friend .Besides I have also hosted KANU party leader Gideon Moi here on several occasions as we get along very well and these are the people I seek to use to push for empowerment of my people. Our future President Raila Odinga also has the interest of Lamu people at heart and once we get into the office we shall sit together with him to outline what we expect from his regime.” she added
Her manifesto for the MP seat seeks to empower women and youth by ensuring everyone gets quality education, eradicate poverty and bring unity and peaceful coexistence among the tribes in the constituency.
