Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Wanjiru Chege on Saturday gifted ODM leader Raila Odinga a pair of special shoes for a special assignment.

The lawmaker handed the gift to the former Prime Minister at Ihuru Stadium where Azimio la Umoja held a mega rally.

She explained that shoes were symbolic of the huge task ahead of Raila.

“Before I give him the shoes, have you blessed him? She posed. The answer was in the affirmative.

“Baba, these shoes I want you to take them, they are waterproof to enable you to climb the Mountain with a lot of ease. May God bless you so much and know we are praying for you,” she said.

The opposition leader has been on a vote-hunting mission in Mt Kenya, a region that has perennially voted against him.

This time around, the AU Special Envoy for Roads and Infrastructure is gambling on his working relationship with President Uhuru Kenya to climb the Mountain.

Already he has made great strides. In the past three elections, he would barely campaign in the vote-rich bloc.

The majority of the leaders in the region are rallying behind Deputy President William Ruto, who enjoys a fanatical following in the area.

However, some leaders have vowed to stick with the former Premier even if it means losing their seats.

In all the Mt Kenya counties, it is only Murang’a where more than half of the MPs anticipate Raila’s presidency. In fact, out of the nine elected lawmakers, only three are backing the DP.

In December last year, Sabina said she prefers Raila to Ruto.

“In the past, we knew Raila is bad because we had not interacted with him. After getting access to him, now we know he is a good man who cares a lot for others,” she said.
