Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Wanjiru Chege has expressed interest in the nomination of running mate post in the Azimio la Umoja Movement.
Chege said she was ready and qualified to become ODM leader and Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s deputy in the run-up to the August General Election.
“Sabina Chege for Deputy President,” she wrote on her social media pages on Sunday after attending a political function in Homa Bay County.
The lawmaker asserted that the former Prime Minister was the most viable choice to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Another successful day in Homa Bay. Raila Tosha,” she said.
She is also in the race for the Murang’a gubernatorial seat.
The Woman Rep, an ardent supporter of the ‘Handshake’ between President Kenyatta and the opposition chief, had been fence sitter in Azimio campaigns until late last year.
She declared that she will stand with Raila come what may.
“Now I believe Raila Odinga is the next President of Kenya and he has my support. I will vibrantly campaign for him and if it means not getting elected here in Murang’a, so be it,” she said.
Chege added that after her interactions with the former Premier, she learnt he is a humble leader.
“In the past, we have always demonised Raila, but that’s because we didn’t have a chance to talk to him. I have personally engaged him and I know he is humble, caring a family man.”
However, her dream of wanting to become Raila’s running mate is the elephant in the room now.
All hints show that the AU Special Envoy will pick his running mate from the Mt Kenya region.
Former presidential candidate Peter Kenneth and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya have been singles out as possible Raila’s deputies.
