Why would an academic giant with two homes rent out a bedsitter?

This is among the many questions without answers following the murder of United States International University (USIU) don, Professor Zachary Mumbo Mosoti.

The lecturer’s body was found on December 10 at his small bedsitter in Kamulu. He was half-naked.

Shockingly, he lived in a rental despite owning a bungalow and a mansion in the Ruai Acacia area. The bungalow was for his first wife while the mansion was made for his mistress. The two houses were on the same land.

His death was reported at Kamulu police station, with records showing that he died from natural causes.

An autopsy last week would, however, reveal that he was killed by being strangled.

“As a result of my examination, I have formed an opinion that the cause of death was asphyxia due to neck compression,” Dr. Dorothy Njeru said as quoted by the Nation.

The big question now is: Who killed him and what was the motive?

Some family members alluded that he ran away from his matrimonial home as a result of frequent fights with the second lover, whom he settled down with in 2019.

“The caretaker says that the woman has was mistreating my husband who was sickly,” his first wife, Gladys Mosoti claimed.

The don and Gladys separated in 2019 after he build a house for the other woman and moved in with her.

“I left the house and land that we had bought and stayed in when the woman showed up in our lives. She was the cause of our separation,” Gladys said.

Another relative, David Angwenyi alleged that the deceased that complained that his mistress was abusing him and wanted her out of his house.

“He had hinted to me that he had rented a bedsitter because he wasn’t getting peace back home. He was diabetic, had online classes, and needed a quiet place to work in and the bedsitter was meant to help him achieve that,” Angwenyi said.

The family is now asking detectives to pursue investigations with these leads and bring his killers to book.

Mosoti was an associate professor of Management and Human Resource Development at USIU.
