Senate to consider Political Parties (Amendment) Bill in special sittings

The Senate will this week hold three special sittings to consider the Political Parties (Amendment) Bill (National Assembly Bills No. 56 of 2021) among other bills.

In a Gazette notice Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka said, “Following the request of the Senate Majority Leader, with the support of the requisite number of Senators, I have appointed Tuesday, 25th January, 2022, Wednesday, 26th January, 2022 and Thursday, 27th January, 2022 as days for special sittings of the Senate.”

The sittings on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th January 2022, shall commence at 2.30 pm, while there will be a morning sitting on Thursday, 27th January 2022, from 10.00 am, and an afternoon sitting that will commence at 2.30 p.m.

The business to be transacted at the sittings shall include consideration of the Political Parties (Amendment) Bill (National Assembly Bills No. 56 of 2021, the Heritage and Museums Bill (Senate Bills No. 22 of 2021), the County Governments (Amendment) Bill (Senate Bills No. 38 of 2021), the Intergovernmental Relations (Amendment) Bill (Senate Bills No. 37 of 2021); and the County Oversight and Accountability Bill (Senate Bills No. 17 of 2021).

“The business specified in the notice shall be the only business before the Senate during the special sittings, following which the Senate shall stand adjourned until Tuesday, 8th February, 2022 at 2.30 p.m., in accordance with the Senate Calendar,” Lusaka said.
