Nominated Senator Beth Mugo has lost her husband Amb. Nicholas Mugo.
The MP in a statement said her husband died early Thursday morning at Nairobi hospital where he was hospitalized after a long illness.
“It is with profound sadness and sorrow, I wish to announce the death of my husband, Amb. Nicholas Mugo, that happened early this morning at the Nairobi Hospital after a long illness”.
Mrs Mugo who is President Uhuru Kenyatta’s first cousin has had a blissful marriage. The couple celebrated their 61 wedding anniversary in September 2019 in Kitisuri.

It was at the colourful ceremony that the Senator revealed her secret of a happy long-lasting union pointing out that her public life came second to her role as a wife and a mother.
The Senator who got married at the young age of 19 said only tolerance and communication had sustained their marriage.
“My public life has never kept me from being a wife and a mother. In fact, I know I’m a wife first, then a mother and them the public life,” she said.
Her husband, 86, a career diplomat and a committed Christian who served as a church Elder at PCEA St Andrews Church for many years will be laid to rest tomorrow, Friday the 4th February 2022 at a private ceremony.
“There will be a private interment tomorrow, Friday the 4th February 2022. The date of his memorial service will be announced later” she said.
Life and Times
Amb. Mugo belonged to the first generation of Kenyans who were airlifted for further studies to the United States of America through the efforts of the late Tom Mboya and the Late Dr. Julius Kiano in collaboration with the Late President SA John F. Kennedy in the late 1950s.
On attainment of Kenya’s independence, Amb. Mugo was recruited to join the East African Community while still in the United States.
He was among the first Kenya Africans who came back to the country to take up the responsibilities of serving the nation.
As a career diplomat, he served as Kenya’s Ambassador in various countries among them France, Ethiopia, the Vatican and Yugoslavia.
Mr Mugo was walking with a cane after slipping his back.
The couple is blessed with four children and several grandchildren.
