A magistrate’s court has issued summons to Senator Ledama ole Kina to appear before it on June 2 to answer to charges of ethnic contempt.

Milimani principal Magistrate, Kennedy Cheruiyot, issued the summons after the prosecution counsel, James Gachoka, told the court they were unable to arrest the senator owing to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Ole Kina is alleged to have made pronouncements intended to incite feelings of discrimination against non-Maasai communities living in Narok county based on their ethnicity, on February 19 during a show on a local TV station.

Ole Kina’s utterances were also condemned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) which also asked Kenyans to maintain peace and continue engaging in the Building Bridges Initiative  process even as it continued looking into the matter.
