Shujaa Claim Bronze in Edmonton 7s

National rugby team Shujaa Sevens beat hosts Canada 33-14 at the Commonwealth Stadium on Monday morning, 27th September to finish third in the 2021 Edmonton Sevens Series.

A six try display saw Innocent Simiyu’s charges claim the bronze medal in the competition. Otieno and Billy Odhiambo grabbed braces with Willy Ambaka and Nelson Oyoo also crossing over the whitewash. Amunga contributed three conversions with Odhiambo scoring a rare conversion.

Shujaa had faced Germany in the cup quarterfinal, emerging winners with 24-17. Jeff Oluoch and Alvin Otieno each landed a brace with Levi Amunga slotting home two conversions.

A cup semifinal clash against South Africa followed. It ended 33-7 to the Blitzboks in a match that saw Jeff Oluoch land Shujaa’s sole try.

Kenya finished third overall six behind overall winners South Africa who also won the Vancouver Sevens title the previous weekend.

The Blitzboks topped with 40 points followed by Great Britain, who had claimed bronze in Vancouver with 34 points.
