A pastor who has been in the frontline in rallying Kenyans to support Deputy President William Ruto’s State House bid has died.
Pastor David Matolo of Redeem Gospel Church (Garissa branch) passed away on Tuesday morning after complaining of chest pains.
An official from the church, Jeremy Montage said the man of the cloth woke up without any health issues and even attended a morning prayer session.
Upon returning home, he developed breathing problems and died on arrival at the Garissa County Referral Hospital.
“He woke up at around 5 am and went to church for prayers. When he returned, he told his wife that he was experiencing chest pains. The wife called a church member to help take him to hospital,” Montage said.
His death came barely a week after he and other local leaders hosted Dr. Ruto in Garissa Town on Wednesday, December 22. Matolo was seen praying for the second in command.
A while back, the clergyman implored President Uhuru Kenyatta to rekindle his bromance with his deputy, arguing that the country was suffering due to the rift between the two top leaders.
“We wish to remind the President and his deputy that the people of Kenya elected them as a unit and they have no choice but to serve them, contrary to the consistent political posturing and gesturing that dominated the news,” he said.
Matolo added that since the two leaders grew apart, the Jubilee government has failed to deliver on its manifesto.
The cleric was born in Siaya County, where his body will be ferried for burial.
