A 23-year-old man has been arrested in Siaya after he unknowingly sold a stolen government firearm to detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).
Kelvin Oduor Onyango was nabbed on Saturday, July 04, by sleuths who had posed as potential buyers of the firearm suspected to have been stolen from Umala Police Station.
The team of police officers led by Inspector Police Wachuiri Kinuthia of DCI Siaya recovered a G3 rifle and a magazine with 13 bullets.
“The detectives posed as potential buyers and the firearms were delivered to them within Siaya township where one suspect namely Kevin Oduor Onyango was arrested,” DCI said in a brief statement of Sunday, July 5.
The suspect is being held at Siaya Police Station and will be arraigned after investigations into the matter are concluded.
Cases of police officers losing firearms to criminals have over the recent past been rife in the country.
