Six people among them two children on Monday lost their lives after a truck veered off the Isiolo-Meru highway and crashed into a church building in Isiolo County.

The truck is said to have hit a woman and two children before ramming into three buildings belonging to the East African Pentecostal Church.

12 Other people are nursing injuries at the Isiolo County Referral Hospital, with four in critical condition according to the Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Hussein Mohamed.

According to eye witnesses who include boda boda riders at the Isiolo-Ruaraka stage, the truck which was ferrying milk to an unknown destination seemingly developed mechanical problems as it was in high speed when it veered off the road just before entering Isiolo Town.

Ben Kariithi, an eye witness noted that similar accidents have happened along the road on many occasions and upon the Kenya National Highways Authority to move with speed and establish speed bumps to help contain such accidents.

Isiolo EAPC town church Presiding Pastor Ephabeas Muriithi and Nicholas Mutea, a church elder, said that the church fraternity had incurred huge losses estimated at around Ksh 20 Million.

According to the Pastor, two shops, a church hall, an equipped kitchen, a 10,000 litres water tank and a 70 Meters perimeter wall were destroyed during the unfortunate incident.
