National Sevens Circuit leaders Strathmore Leos headline Pool A by virtue of victory in the second round at the Christie 7s in Nairobi last weekend and will do battle with Impala, Homeboyz and hosts Mombasa.
Reigning national champions and Driftwood 7s title holders KCB are in Pool B with Kabras Sugar, Daystar Falcons and JumiaPay Pirates while Menengai Oilers, Kenya Harlequin, Topfry Nakuru and Blak Blad make up Pool C.
Western Bulls are top seeds in a Pool D that also includes Mwamba, Nondescripts and the Zetech Oaks who won the division two competition at the Christie 7s.
The Driftwood 7s is the third round of the 2022 National Sevens Circuit and takes place at the Mombasa Sports Club on 18th/19th June.
The varsity side will be renewing their rivalry with group opponents having beaten Impala 36-0 in the pool stages at Christie Sevens and beaten Homeboyz 15-10 to qualify for the final in the Kabeberi Sevens
Head coach Louis Kisia termed the pool tricky for his charges and said they will take one game at a time.
“This will be a tough pool considering the quality of both Homeboyz and Impala. Mombasa will also want to prove a point considering they will be playing at home. On our side, we want to maintain our Christie Sevens performance and win,” said Kisia.
The bankers on the other hand will be seeking to bounce back when they face Kabras, Daystar Falcons and Pirates with head coach Dennis Mwanja expecting to have Kenya Sevens players for the event.
“The national team players are back and we will see if they are available for selection to bolster our squad and give us an opportunity of defending our title,” noted Mwanja.
