Suspect involved in boda boda theft syndicate arrested

A wanted suspect believed to be part of a wider network of criminals targeting Boda Boda riders and stealing their motorbikes has been arrested.

The notorious suspect Samuel Oluoch alias Dozi, was arrested by our detectives based in Suna East, Migori county and three motorbikes were recovered in his possession.

The 26-year-old suspect who posses as a mechanic was arrested following a call received through the Directorate of Criminal Investigations toll-free hotline, 0800 722 203, from a member of the public.

According to the DCI, this kind of crime appears to be gaining currency in the country.

The syndicate mainly targets the popular boxer make that sells fast in the black market.

Detectives further established that Dozi’s network of criminals extends to a nearby prison where he is in constant contact with a robbery suspect.

The DCI is appealing to the members of the public who have more information in relation to the crime to use their toll-free hotline.

Elsewhere, Athman Karim Kori, 36, is a guest of the state for the weekend after he was arrested Saturday evening selling a mobile phone that he, together with an accomplice, had stolen in Muranga town.

Athman and his counterpart had accosted Harrison Kuria within Mumbi Estate as he was walking home.

The two brandished an imitation pistol and held it against Kuria as they went for his pockets.

They made away with his mobile phone and Ksh 5200 in cash.

An hour later, one of the thugs approached a shop attendant in the town to sell the phone.

On sighting the phone, the shop attendant who had earlier heard of Kuria’s predicament immediately recognized it.

He tricked the seller to wait for him as he went to fetch money but in turn, he informed Kuria and alerted police officers based at Muranga Police Station.

On arrival, the officers arrested the suspect and upon searching him, recovered a toy pistol.

Detectives say efforts to trace his accomplice are still ongoing.
He will be arraigned on Monday to answer charges of robbery with violence.
