President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged residents of his home county of Kiambu to make wise decisions next year when they will be electing their new leaders.

Acknowledging greeting from the people of Ruiru this evening after presiding over the Cadet Officers pass out parade at the Kenya Prisons Staff Training College, the President said he will be disappointed if Kenyans vote in rogue and corrupt leaders.

“I’m appealing to you to choose your leaders wisely. You will let me down if allow my legacy and that of Mwai Kibaki to go down the drain. Electing thieves will be a big mistake and you will regret it for a long time,” he said.

The Head of State did not name any politician, but judging from his words, it is clear he was warning the locals against his estranged deputy William Ruto and his allies.

In at least two recent political functions, the President hinted at supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga to succeed.

A month ago, the President while addressing residents of Kibera in Nairobi heaped praises at the former Prime Minister, saying he was pro-development.

“You know for yourself who has been helping me secure my legacy and those who have been campaigning throughout. The decision will be yours,” he said.

On the eve of Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kirinyaga, the first in command told residents of the county to consider the AU Special Envoy on Roads and Infrastructure for the top seat.

Making reference to the opposition leader’s recent trips in the Mt Kenya region, the Head of State said: “I know you have seen my visitor passing here, I don’t want to talk much about him, but think about it.”
